Health Literacy Initiative for Ireland Introduction
The Health Literacy Initiative was launched in January 2024-a collaborative effort with the largest advocacy groups in Ireland, representing a large number of patients, service users and families.
Mission: To Engage and Empower Every Person in Ireland with the knowledge, skills and confidence to be active partners and advocates for their own care.
Aims: Health literacy education and support from an early age, in all communities, to empower people to engage and be active partners in their own care
• Education (from an early age)
• Health service
• Community groups and programmes (e.g. Healthy Ireland)
Contributing to:
•improved health outcomes
•Improved patient safety
•a more effective and efficient health service
Health Literacy 2024 This article suggests a few tips and techniques that you may use in your everyday interactions with the health service to enable you to engage more actively in your care or the care of your loved ones.
