Martina Phelan

CPI Chair. Lived experience of life with chronic pain over three decades. Currently, a student of UL studying BA with Sociology. 20+ years’ experience in payroll accountancy, payroll systems implementation and the policies that underpin them in a variety of industries ranging from pharmaceutical to aviation. Has a wealth of knowledge having engaged in both EU and National Public Patient Involvement (PPI) initiatives and research. Has contributed to many Steering Committees and Committees. Patient Representative with the Faculty of Pain Management and Co-Lead of SIP Ireland.

Michelle Wallace

Dip IOD, National Secretary & Treasurer. Michelle is currently Workplace Services Manager at CBRE for Google EMEA HQ in Dublin. Michelle holds a Masters in Employment law. With over 25 years experience across professional services, legal, Health and industry. Managing finance, operations, HR, Corporate Governance and Communications. An advocate for Chronic Pain and invisible illnesses, in addition to supporting charities and causes linked to children’s causes.

Niamh Walsh

15+ years’ experience in senior roles in marketing, communications, content management & e-learning. Studied Philosophy & Classics, Computer Science, Training and Continuing Education, Management & Marketing, Business & Executive Coaching and is a certified Lean Six-Sigma Green Belt. Niamh is a qualified psychotherapist working with The Mynd Centre in Bray.

The simplest way to use these events to raise money on our behalf is to view some of the events listed on our events section of iDonate.ie and then setting up your own fundraising page that you can share with family and friends. This year why not hold a virtual fundraiser, it can be a music gig, walk, jog, run, cycle. We also had a sponsored sheep-shearing event and we are grateful to all who step forward.

We’ve loads of idea’s listed on our iDonate events pages and while it is not possible for group events during 2020 hopefully 2021 will see us gathering again.

With your help we can provide more services and support to those living with chronic pain conditions. So please get together with your friends and family to help and ensure that no one has to suffer alone!

Your time, effort, and contributions will enable us to provide support service to people and their families who are affected by chronic pain and the impact it has on every aspect of their lives.

Every year Chronic Pain Ireland supports hundreds of people and with your help we hope to reach out to the many thousands of people who are struggling. Recent statistics show that 13% of the Irish population are affected by pain and of that number 89% feel that they cannot speak to family members or friends about their condition.

Chronic Pain Ireland is a registered charity and receives SSNO funding which covers the cost of our part-time administrator. We are very grateful to SSNO funding and the ongoing support of Pobal and the Department of Rural and Community Development under the Programme and Scheme to Support National Organisations (SSNO) 2019-2022.

While we are delighted to be receive this support we are heavily reliant on donations from our members and the public to cover all our support services which includes our telephone support line a vital link for so many who feel alone. In 2020 we moved to providing online supports as our it was unsafe to hold workshops, public awareness events and talks.

Spinal Injuries Ireland

SII is the support and representative organisation for people with a spinal cord injury and their families throughout Ireland. Based in the grounds of the National Rehabilitation Hospital in Dun Laoghaire, Spinal Injuries Ireland supports over 9,000 people nationwide, comprising those who have sustained a spinal injury, their spouses and families. Pain Concern provide information and support to people with pain and those who care for them, whether family, friends or healthcare professionals. We aim to raise awareness about pain and improve the provision of pain management services, through our policy and campaigning work. Our Airing Pain radio show is a series of audio podcasts featuring the experiences of those managing their everyday pain, and interviews with top, internationally- recognised experts. Our magazine Pain Matters contains news, features and comment on topics including self-management techniques, research into pain treatments, and personal experiences of living with pain. It is available in print and electronic form. We run a helpline staffed by volunteers, who provide information, support, or just a listening ear to people wanting to talk about their own pain or that of a family member or friend, and an online community on HealthUnlocked which provides members with a forum to share experiences. Also it imposes a large economic burdens on society and individualsPromote Fibromyalgia awareness to politicians, physicians, scientists and the general public on a European level.As Fibromyalgia is adopted by the European politicians by way of accepting the written declaration 69/2008. It is for ENFA to get the written declaration into action with a primary goal to get Fibromyalgia as a key topic in the European Health Programme.

Aware

Aware is the national organisation providing support, education and information services for individuals, families and communities impacted by depression and related conditions. Services include support line, support mail, support groups, Life Skills CBT programmes, secondary schools awareness programme and Wellness@Work training programmes.

EUROSPINE Patient Line

EUROSPINE, an organisation spanning Europe, aims to stimulate the exchange of knowledge and ideas in the field of research, prevention and treatment of spine diseases and related problems and to coordinate efforts undertaken in European countries for further development in this field.

Patient Line is part of EUROSPINE, whose goal is to provide up-to-date information to patients. It is managed and edited by a committee of experts from different disciplines, including clinicians and researchers, and the information is based on the most recent evidence.

American Chronic Pain Association

The American Chronic Pain Association has been helping people live fuller lives in spite of their pain for 34 years. Our goal is to provide them with the tools they need, in addition to what their health care provider offers, so that they can improve their skills in the self-management of their chronic pain. We focus on helping the person with pain become an active partner on the health care team.

ACPA Mission:

To facilitate peer support and education for individuals with chronic pain and their families so that these individuals may live more fully in spite of their pain.

M.Sc. Pharmaceutical Science, M.Sc. Chemistry, Dip. Corporate Governance. John has worked in the Pharmaceutical sector for 20+ years and has served on Boards in both the Pharma and Charity sectors. He is a paraplegic and has suffered bouts of chronic pain since sustaining a life-changing injury 35 years ago.
