CBT-I WINS BMP GRANT 2022

Jul 26, 2022

Brain, Mind and Pain Patient-Centred Innovation (BMP) Grant and Pain Alliance Europe announce the winners of the third edition of the BMP Grant:  This edition’s theme “Healthy Sleep for People Living with Brain, Mind and Pain Conditions” had two project winners at the virtual event held on Friday, 22 July 2022. CBT-I World Café, led by University of Limerick and in partnership with Chronic Pain Ireland  was announced as one of the winning applications. Commenting on this win Prof. Kieran O’Sullivan, University of Limerick on his team’s project, CBT-I World Café:

“The burden associated with both pain and poor sleep is large, and especially when they are experienced at the same time. We are delighted to have obtained funding for this project which is co-designed with Chronic Pain Ireland.

This project will work with stakeholders, including clinicians and patients, to identify what options are available to people with pain who also report poor sleep, and how acceptable and effective these options are.” The project is being completed as part of a PhD by Abigail Browne at the University of Limerick in Ireland, under the supervision of Prof. Kieran O’Sullivan and Dr Roisin Cahalan.    Commenting on this win, CPI Chair Martina Phelan states “Poor sleep is one of the topics regularly addressed in our workshops.  The majority of our members report substandard sleep quality. Given that sleep and pain appear to have a bidirectional relationship, prioritizing sleep for those living with chronic pain, may be a key component in recovery, self-management and improving overall quality of life. Chronic Pain Ireland is happy to partner with the School of Allied Health, University of Limerick.  On behalf of all our members, we would like to thank the BMP Grant Committee and all involved.

It is encouraging to be part of such an innovative award which specifically encourages patient involvement as the basis for new initiatives.  This patient-centric, patient driven scientific research project will directly impact on patients needs and helps shine a light on chronic pain conditions and neurological disorders.”
