Understanding Chronic Pain workshop

Understanding Chronic Pain

Our Understanding Chronic Pain workshop is designed to provide clear, practical tools for managing pain and improving quality of life. Grounded in a holistic, bio-psycho-social model of health, our approach incorporates evidence-based techniques such as cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), relaxation, positive psychology, motivational coaching, and more.

During this interactive session, participants will explore:

  • The differences between acute and chronic pain
  • The interplay of sensory and emotional experiences in pain
  • Neuromatrix and Gate Theory models of pain
  • The concept of nociplastic pain
  • How the “Threat-o-Meter” influences pain perception
  • Links between these concepts and effective pain management strategies

For over two decades, Chronic Pain Ireland (CPI) has offered self-management training to those living with chronic pain. In collaboration with the Pain Association Scotland, a pioneer in self-management training, we combine decades of expertise to deliver impactful, practical workshops. Together, we aim to help individuals develop lasting self-management skills for a healthier, more fulfilling life.

Our expert facilitator has conducted over 10,000 workshops, empowering participants to take control of their pain management journey.

These workshops are exclusive to members of Chronic Pain Ireland. Membership includes access to a wide range of resources and supports such as self-management workshops, a telephone support line, chronic pain courses, online meetings, webinars, and networking opportunities.
