On Saturday 23rd September 2023, Deirdre Conway held a Fun Basketball Scrimmage and so far has managed to raise an incredible €2,925.00 for Chronic Pain Ireland. With the support of many local businesses and local radio station and publication The Connaught Telegraph, there was great interest in the event. Deirdre and her team of volunteers and family members ensured that the day went smoothly and visitors and players alike had a great day.
Deirdre said people made a great effort to come along and support the event particularly as the weather was really bad on Saturday. The Under 16’s had a great day, got to play and had a lot of support, advice and attention from the coaches present. The adults in the afternoon, some played a full session and others came in and out as they could. It was lovely to meet people and to connect with the local community, friends and family. It was also really satisfying to see people having a bit of craic, be it on the court or over a cup of tea and a biscuit.
People that she had not seen in many years also came by to support the event and it was a welcome opportunity for people to reconnect and share in memories from their days as players. Parents of children (who are now adults) dropped in to support in acknowledgement of the support their then children had received when Deirdre was coaching.
On behalf of Chronic Pain Ireland our thanks to Deirdre, her family and all who took part, supported and donated no matter how big or small. This support helps to keep our doors open and our services running.
